As part of The Daily Mirror's "Island of Strangers" film series, our Liverpool Refugees Rock group shows how climbing can build powerful friendships. Sev and Ali’s story is one of resilience, solidarity, and hope.

"As Britain faces a second summer of protest, the Daily Mirror’s Ros Wynne-Jones, John Domokos and Claire Donnelly head to Liverpool for the second in a new video series, ‘Island of Strangers’ which asks how communities cross difficult divides.

At Refugees Rock in Liverpool, refugees and local climbers forge powerful bonds. When riots struck the local asylum hotel, the climbing community rallied to stand by their friends. This film follows Sev, a gifted local climber, and his ‘Boulder Buddy’ Ali, a refugee from Iran, as they find resilience, strength, and belonging on the walls of The Climbing Hangar in Merseyside."
