Join The Everest Challenge
Get your climbing friends, club or community together and take on our Everest Challenge.
The challenge is simple: climb a combined 8,849 metres (the height of Mount Everest) at your local climbing wall while raising money to support Refugees Rock. You choose the team, the date and the wall. We’ll give you the toolkit and guidance you need to make it happen.

1. Get your team together
Bring together a group of climbers who are up for the challenge. You can also recruit helpers to run your basecamp, keep the tally and support the team.
2. Choose your climbing wall
Speak to your local wall about hosting the challenge and agree on a date and format that works for them.
3. Set your fundraising target
Set up your fundraising campaign and encourage your team, friends, family and climbing community to donate.
4. Climb 8,849m
On the day, climb as a team and keep track of your progress until you reach the height of Everest.
5. Celebrate your achievement
Share your photos, videos and final fundraising total — and let us know how you got on!

How does it work?

Why take on the challenge?
The Everest Challenge is more than just a day of climbing. It’s a chance to bring your climbing community together, take on something ambitious and raise money to help people seeking sanctuary experience the joy and benefits of climbing.
Whether you take it on with your climbing friends, club, colleagues or wider community, you’ll be helping Refugees Rock provide free climbing opportunities for people fleeing war, persecution and exploitation.
Challenge yourself
See how quickly your team can climb the equivalent of 8,849 metres.
Bring people together
Turn your challenge into a community event and get friends, fellow climbers and your local climbing wall involved.
Make a difference
Every pound you raise helps Refugees Rock create opportunities for people seeking sanctuary to climb, connect with others and feel a sense of belonging.
Make it your own
Add a raffle, cake sale, prizes, music or anything else that makes your Everest Challenge unique.
Climb together. Fundraise together. Help make climbing more accessible to people seeking sanctuary.

How hard is it?
That’s up to you! The number of climbs needed will depend on your team and the height of the problems at your climbing wall. You can work with your wall to calculate a realistic target and decide how long you want to give yourselves.
You don't all need to climb the same grades. The original Refugees Rock challenge in Liverpool allowed climbers to climb any grade, with only completed ascents counting towards the total. Their team of 12 climbers reached the 8,849m target in three and a half hours and raised £3,500.
The important thing is that your team is prepared for a long climbing session and that everyone looks after themselves throughout the challenge.
